What is “teaching” in the Early Years?

This helps us to guide the child in to what it is they want to learn.

How we assess . .

“Observation Play and Learning”

OPAL

We do 3 “spotlights” a year on your children.

We think observing and assessing children in the early years should not be a chore.

We try to minimise ‘paperwork’ and ‘evidence’ and give ourselves time . . . time to spend interacting and playing with your children, not testing them.

We know that not all children will have ‘typical’ development.

These spotlights allow us to tell and celebrate each child’s story and focus on the tailored support they need from us.

These very simple developmental milestones, which we use to monitor children’s development reflect what we believe a ‘typical’ child, should be able to achieve.

When looking at the statements, we see if the child is meeting or working towards any milestones.
