Introducing . . . .

“You Choose Wednesdays!”

What does this mean? . . . .

On Wednesdays the children get to choose what to get out . . . . why? . . . well, allowing children to choose their own activities in preschool has several benefits for their development.

Autonomy and Independence: helping them develop decision-making skills, which are crucial for their overall growth.

Interest and Engagement: When children have the freedom to choose activities that interest them, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated.

Individualised Learning: Allowing them to choose their activities enables a more individualised approach to learning, catering to each child's specific needs and learning style.

Social Skills: Choosing activities often involves interacting with peers, negotiating, and sharing ideas: Contributing to the development of important social skills such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution.

Developing a Love for Learning: The freedom to choose activities fosters a positive attitude toward learning. Children are more likely to view learning as an enjoyable and fulfilling experience when they can explore topics and activities that genuinely interest them.

Problem-Solving Skills: Decision-making and problem-solving are valuable skills that children develop when they make choices about their activities. They learn to weigh options, consider consequences, and make decisions based on their preferences and interests.

Ownership and Responsibility: Allowing children to choose their activities gives them a sense of ownership over their learning. This, in turn, promotes a sense of responsibility for their actions and choices, laying the groundwork for a proactive and self-directed approach to learning.

Exploration and Creativity: Children learn through exploration and play. When they have the freedom to choose activities, they are more likely to explore new ideas, materials, and experiences, fostering creativity and innovation.

So what’s not to like ? . . . . Let’s get choosing!
